We are a shortline railroad with 140 miles of main line track with class 3 & 4 track. We have 25 locomotives and 75 fulltime employees. Due to the high and rising cost of insurance and litigation we began searching for improved methods of controlling everything from grade crossing incidents to trespassing. We experimented with "On Board" camera systems to record crossing collisions and other accidents to help protect us from future litigation. After researching and testing several different video systems, we chose the Advanced Video Technologies (AVT) systems. The AVT has proven to be an excellent system. The convenience of the removable DVR hard drive is unmatched in anything else we have seen.

The AVT system has already saved us by recording multiple grade crossing accidents and proving that we were in compliance and beyond with all laws and regulations. As they say "A picture is worth a thousand words." I have had plaintiffs attorneys come to my office to serve us with law suits, watch the video and drop the case.

I had been in search of locomotive mounted video recording systems for nearly a year. I had looked at Advanced Video Technologies (AVT) systems on more than one occasion but wasn’t certain their systems provided the best value. I set out to find the most versatile, comprehensive and durable system that would provide the most value for our money. I found that other systems on the market did not compare to those offered by AVT. AVT systems could be mounted on any locomotive regardless of the locomotive manufacturer. The systems provided twice as many cameras and were capable of monitoring a wide array of locomotive operations at a cost substantially less than other systems. All of our locomotives are being outfitted with Advanced Video Technologies locomotive mounted recording systems.
